BUSINESS BRIEFS
Ford project set to break ground

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Honolulu Ford plans to break ground next week on a roughly $10 million new and used-car dealership at Houghtailing and North King streets in Kalihi.

The previously announced project will consolidate the company's used-car business at Nimitz Highway and Lagoon Drive with its new-car dealership at 777 Ala Moana, where landowner Kamehameha Schools is considering building a high-tech office complex.

The new dealership is expected to open in January 2005.

Hawai'i tops list of destinations

Hawai'i's popularity as a vacation destination is expected to continue through the end of the year and into 2004, according to an American Express survey.

The survey also found American travelers plan to spend more next year, take to the air more often and visit both international and domestic destinations.

A survey of American Express travel agents reported that they expect Honolulu; Orlando, Fla.; New York City; Las Vegas; and Miami to be the top U.S. destinations for the rest of the year.

Hawai'i also tops the list of 2004 destinations. Next year, agents said, they also expect Alaska, Las Vegas, New York City and Orlando to be top popular destinations.
