New designers debut edgy, feminine line

Designers Cecilia Kim, left, and Cindy King have joined forces on "Acid Dolls."
Up-and-coming Hawai'i fashion designers Cecilia Kim and Cindy King will debut their first clothing line, "Acid Dolls," at Kapi'olani Community College's French Week tomorrow. The street-couture fashion show will take place 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the campus Ka Ikena Dining Room.

"Our clothes are for girls who like edginess, but also like to show off a feminine part of themselves, such as their shoulders or their legs," the designers said in a written statement.

The pair hope to stand out in the made-in-Hawai'i clothing industry. Their work is all handmade and each piece is one of a kind.

Lynette Kim models a scarf, skirt and appliquéd shirt from Acid Dolls clothing line.
"We chose not to mass-produce our line because we want our clothing to be unique," said Kim.

Both participated separately in this year's University of Hawai'iiManoa fashion show "Fashionation," debuting their own clothing lines and receiving positive reviews. When KCC invited them to put on a show with only a month's notice, they joined forces to create "Acid Dolls."

Coordinators of French Week (Nov. 5 through tomorrow) at the college include French instructor Renee Arnold, Chef Mavro, the UH fashion program and the school's Culinary Arts program.

Throughout the week, French cuisine has been served at the college cafeteria and the Ka Ikena Dining Room.
