Bank robbery leads to arrests
Police arrested two people today on the Kane'ohe side of the Wilson Tunnel on suspicion of bank robbery.
A police helicopter tracked a car on Likelike Highway shortly after a mid-morning holdup at Hawaii National Bank's Dillingham Plaza branch at 1505 Dillingham Blvd. The car was stopped in the area of the "banana patch" outside the tunnel at 9:36 a.m.
Police said there appeared to be evidence in the car a gun and money that may be tied to the robbery.
Wai'anae Valley hot spots fought
Six fire engine companies and three tankers today were fighting hot spots from a brushfire that has burned more than 30 acres in Wai'anae Valley since last night. The fire was not threatening property, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Kenison Tejada.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at Piliuka Way near Pula Way at 5:15 p.m. yesterday. Tejada said companies left the scene at 9:15 p.m. but were called back at midnight and continued fighting the fire until 6:45 a.m. today. Companies were called back about an hour later to put out hot spots in different locations.
Pizza delivery man robbed
Police are investigating a reported armed robbery of a pizza delivery man last night in Halawa.
The 9:40 p.m. robbery occurred on the 1100 block of Haloa Drive. The delivery man, 32, said he was confronted by three men, including one with a gun, who demanded cash. The three men fled on foot with cash and are still at large, police said.
Two suspected in home burglary
Two 22-year-old men, who were seen scaling a wall surrounding a Waikele housing complex by a police officer early yesterday, were arrested on suspicion of stealing items from the home of residents who are on a vacation trip.
The suspects, who reside in Waipahu and Waimanalo, were booked for first-degree burglary. Police said one of the men was carrying a garage opener when the officer stopped them for questioning near Lumi'au'au Street. The garage opener was for a home that had been burglarized, police said.
Police seized evidence in the suspects' vehicle, parked near the arrest scene, that included mail.
Woman nabbed in theft of car
A 19-year-old woman with no permanent local address was arrested by police on suspicion of driving a stolen car and driving without a license following a traffic collision yesterday in Hau'ula that closed a section of Kamehameha Highway to traffic from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
The stolen car, a 2001 Toyota sedan, was taken from a University Avenue parking lot, police said. It was involved in a collision with a garbage truck near Pipiiani Place. No serious injuries were reported, police said.
