Tonight's Must-See

"Will & Grace," 8 p.m., and "Scrubs," 8:30 p.m., NBC. As the "sweeps" month continues, NBC shovels in lots of guest movie stars. First is Jack Black, who is hilarious in the film "School of Rock." On "Will & Grace," he plays Karen's doctor, who has a bizarre manner. Then comes Tara Reid ("American Pie") on "Scrubs," where she plays a mysterious stranger who meets J.D. in the elevator and soon is getting his life story. Also on "Scrubs" is Freddy Rodriguez of "Six Feet Under." He plays Carla's brother, who needs an apology from Turk — but will listen only when he's spoken to in Spanish.

Of Note

"Tru Calling," 7 p.m., Fox. In the first two weeks, we met Tru's brother, a wobbly gambler. Now he meets a fascinating woman.

"Survivor: Pearl Islands," 7 p.m., CBS. The field is trimmed to eight contestants, half the original number.

"Friends," 7 p.m., NBC. Chandler and Monica nervously await a home inspection that's important in their attempt to adopt a baby. Alas, the inspector (Maria Pitillo, formerly of "Partners") has bad memories of this building where a cad named Joey once jilted her. Meanwhile, Phoebe and Mike want to renege on a charity contribution. And Ross confronts Rachel's irrational fear of swing sets.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. Here is an episode — scheduled earlier, then postponed — in which investigators have 24 hours to find fresh evidence.

"ER," 9 p.m., NBC. Lewis is supposed to prepare a home-cooked dinner for her droll patient (Bob Newhart); so far, however, she's having trouble getting off work. Meanwhile, there are tough days for two newcomers, played by Linda Cardellini and Parminder Nagra.
