An honor that will branch out for Richard Chamberlain

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

Actor Richard Chamberlain, a part-time Hawai'i resident, will have a milo tree planted in his honor in ceremonies at 11 a.m. today at Magic Island Beach Park. He will be attending.

The Outdoor Circle and the city of Honolulu are overseeing the ceremony.

Three years ago, the international Chamberlain Fans e-group decided to celebrate his birthday with a donation in his honor to an environmental group that embodied his love of nature, the Hawaiian Islands and its people. The group chose the Outdoor Circle because Chamberlain — a star of stage, screen and TV miniseries — also is a life member of the organization. Since then, in addition to making an annual donation to the Outdoor Circle's tree planting and preservation fund in Chamberlain's name, the e-group has held eBay auctions of Chamberlain memorabilia, with proceeds earmarked for the same fund.
