Panel to talk about yonsei tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

A panel discussion on the yonsei — fourth-generation Japanese Americans — and their involvement with their culture will be presented from 9 to 11:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i, 2454 S. Beretania St.

The free event, "Yonsei on Stage: Performing Japanese American Arts and Identity," is co-sponsored by the center, the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu and the University of Hawai'i-Manoa ethnic studies and anthropology departments.

Panelists will discuss what drives young yonsei to practice traditional Japanese and Okinawan art forms.

The event also will showcase performers. For information, call the consulate at 543-3111.
