Baldwin's girls and Kapolei's boys are leading after six games at the Billy Tees State Bowling Championships held yesterday at Hilo Lanes on the Big Island.

The Bears have knocked down 4,854 pins, 76 more than Kapolei's girls.

Baldwin has four of its five team-scoring bowlers in the top 40, while Kapolei and Pearl City have only three of their best five in the top 40.

The Bears' top rollers are Kristi Tintiangco (1,043) and Amy Nashiwa (1,042).

Hawai'i Baptist is third at 4,749, followed by three-time defending champion Pearl City at 4,703.

Maui High's Malia Baldovi leads individual girls at 1,128, seven pins more than Kapolei's Shaina Carnate. Defending champion Samantha Masuda of Kapolei is 15th at 1,008.

The O'ahu Interscholastic Association has the top three spots for the boys. Kapolei leads with 5,517, followed by Mililani's 5,483 and Moanalua's 5,478.

Moanalua's Cy Hiyane has the individual boys' lead at 1,270.

Kapolei is leading on the strength of Kananiomau Villa (1,244) and Kevin Soriano (1,191). They are second and third, respectively.

But Mililani has all five of its team scorers in the top 31 to make today's final games interesting.

The final set of three games starts at 8:30 a.m. today.

Correction: Pearl City's girls won the OIA West with a 24-3 record. A different record and finish were noted in Wednesday's story.
