Ad sales for UH sports program not a scam

An allegedly phony company selling advertisements for the University of Hawai'i basketball team's official program isn't phony after all, UH officials said.
University Sports Publications is working as a contract company for The Honolulu Advertiser soliciting ads for the team program, said Carolyn Tanaka, the university's associate vice president for external affairs.
Tanaka said the contract agreement goes back to 2001, but because of changes in marketing personnel in the UH athletics department, the information had not been passed on to current staff.
"It's legit," Tanaka said. "It's not a scam."
CrimeStoppers on Oct. 24 issued a warning about the possible scam, but discovered the company was legitimate following a police investigation, said Tanaka.
