Woman charged in fatal shooting case

A 20-year-old Kalihi woman was charged last night with giving police a false alibi for one of the suspects in the Nov. 1 robbery and fatal shooting of Guylan Nuuhiwa.

Chantel Villamor was charged with one count of hindering prosecution. Her bail was set at $11,000.

Police said Villamor told investigators that one of the three men allegedly involved in the robbery and shooting of Nuuhiwa was with her and not at the scene. But witnesses told police that Villamor was at the scene and fled with the suspect following the shooting.

HECO helicopter to aid in repairs

Hawaiian Electric Co. will be using a helicopter to complete repairs to a 46-kilovolt transmission line and to inspect other lines in the back of Palolo Valley and Kalani Iki today.

The helicopter will transport equipment to and from the back of the valley from 9 a.m. to about 5 p.m., a HECO spokesman said.

An estimated 4,800 East Honolulu customers lost power for nearly an hour yesterday when a power line in Palolo came down. The outage affected the Kapahulu, Wai'alae, Kaimuki and Waikiki areas, said Jose Dizon, HECO spokesman.

Crews were unable to determine why the line came down on Wai'oma'o Road at 11:19 a.m., Dizon said. Power was rerouted around the line break, with service restored at 12:14 p.m., he said.

The Philippine Medical Association of Hawaii is celebrating its silver anniversary with a gala dinner tonight to highlight its many humanitarian efforts.

The nonprofit association was founded by a group of Filipino doctors to help improve the healthcare and quality of life in our community and beyond.

Through the volunteers of the Aloha Medical Mission, 200,000 patients in the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Vanuatu, Laos, Cambodia and Bangladesh have been treated. A local clinic of the Aloha Medical Mission treats the homeless and uninsured and the Bayanihan Clinic Without Walls treats newly arrived immigrants who do not yet have medical insurance.

Police arrest man in beach attack

A 42-year-old Nanakuli man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault after he allegedly struck his girlfriend with nunchaku sticks, a martial-arts weapon, early Thursday morning.

Police were called to Nanakuli Beach at about 1 a.m. and were told the assault took place after the suspect found the victim there talking with other men, who are suspected drug dealers.
