Diverse group talks with us about issues affecting state

Job force training, education, security at our ports and a special meeting with University of Hawai'i President Evan Dobelle were among the issues on the plate at the latest Community Editorial Board meeting with the regular editorial board of The Advertiser.

• Bob Freeman, a small- business owner with experience in education and construction.

• Roy Niles, a retired federal investigator now in private practice.

• E. Rebecca Ryan, executive director of the Mo'ili'ili Community Center.

• Linda Staton, a former small-newspaper publisher on the Mainland, active in community arts, education and cultural issues.

• Len Pepper, a psychologist and former state representative now working on long-term care issues.

• Robert "Tim" Guard, president of McCabe, Hamilton & Renny stevedoring firm and president of the Honolulu Council of the Navy League.
