About 1,200 people are expected to attend the Pacific Telecommunications Council's 26th annual Conference Jan. 11-14 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

The conference will focus on the industry's outlook, regulatory environment, broadband access technologies and wireless networking with an emphasis on the Asia/Pacific market, including the West Coast. The conference is geared toward telecommunications equipment makers, service providers and application designers.

Sharon Nakama, conference director, said about 50 attendees will come from Hawai'i with the rest coming from throughout the region.

"We're right in the middle of the U.S. and Asia, and we're a good hub for the whole world," she said. "This is a good place for them to get away from the cold, but at the same time it's really" business oriented.

The cost of the conference is $750 for council members and $1,150 for nonmembers who register through Dec. 22.
