The stamp will be released March 2, 2004 in La Jolla, Calif., as part of the "Seussentenial: A Century of Imagination," a yearlong celebration honoring his life and legacy on what would have been his 100th birthday.

Cake, candles and ...

Looking for a way to add spice to a birthday celebration? Try these family birthday traditions we've heard about from kids from all over:

  • The birthday person runs around the block once for every year old she is.
  • The birthday kid wakes up to find a golden ribbon tied to the bed. The ribbon trails through the house, and at the end is a birthday surprise.
  • That Beatles' "Birthday" song is played and the whole family dances and sings along.
  • The family sings "Happy Birthday" at the exact time of the kid's birth — even if it is 3 a.m.
