Bank robbery reported in Kalihi

A man who said he had a gun robbed the Kalihi branch of Hawai'i National Bank yesterday morning.

Police said the man also may be responsible for robberies of First Hawaiian Bank's Kalihi branch Oct. 3 and Bank of Hawaii's Mapunapuna branch Oct. 7.

In yesterday's robbery, police said the robber walked into the branch at the Kamehameha Shopping Center and handed a teller a note saying he had a gun.

No weapon was seen, but the man was given an undetermined amount of money and was last seen walking through the center's parking lot toward Likelike Highway.

The robber was described as about 30 years old, 5 feet 10, 140 pounds with a slim build, mustache and dark complexion. Police said he wore a white polo shirt with vertical stripes, light-colored pants, slippers and was carrying a black bag.
