Blankenbecler services set for Monday

Services for Command Sgt. Maj. James D. Blankenbecler, who was killed on Oct. 1 in Samarra, Iraq, will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.

Blankenbecler, who was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas, had been stationed at Schofield Barracks. The Alexandria, Va., native was 40.

While serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Blankenbecler was in a convoy that was hit by an improvised explosive device and rocket propelled grenades. He died of his injuries.

Blankenbecler is survived by his wife, Linnie; children, Amanda Villalobos, Joseph Morales and Jessica; parents, Lowell and Joanne; and brother, Jeff.
