ISLE FILE
Tejada to coach baseball at Kahuku

Advertiser Staff

Former Colorado Rockies farmhand Mike Tejada has been appointed varsity baseball coach at Kahuku High, athletic director Joe Whitford said.

Tejada, who spent three seasons in the Rockies' minor league system, graduated from Provo (Utah) High in 1997. He attended Brigham Young, where he played baseball.

He was drafted in the 27th round by the Rockies in 1999, but then went on a church mission. Still under control by the Rockies, Tejada signed in April 2000. He spent the past season with the North Shore Spirit of the independent Northeast League.

Tejada was born in Hawai'i and grew up in Kahuku. He attended Kamehameha Schools in the seventh grade before his family moved to Utah.

He succeeds Keith Koverman, who resigned after last season.
