THE LEFT LANE
Hanging 10 and hanging art

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Surfing is an art, and shaping surfboards is an art, and — if you really want to stretch it — surfboards themselves are sort of artistic.

Street artists like Eric Haze, Dez Einswell, Futura and Angry Woebot have turned real surfboards into real art as part of a benefit for the Jason Bogle Cancer Foundation.

The boards will be on display 6 to 10 p.m. tomorrow at In4mation at the Ward Warehouse. They're also being sold by auction online through Dec. 14; search "surfboard." For more information, call 597-1447.

Awareness can be a kick in the butt

Here's your cold, sobering fact for the day: Lung cancer kills more Americans each year than breast, prostate and colo-rectal cancer combined, and women now account for more than half of all new lung cancer cases.

OK, that's actually two cold, sobering facts. But when it comes to lung cancer, a little overkill (absolutely no pun intended) is understandable.

So here's another two-for-one fact: Lung cancer often can be prevented by not smoking, and quitting smoking can reduce the risk.

In case you were wondering, this week is Lung Cancer Awareness Week. And, if you're smoking right now, cut it out! Today is the Great American Smokeout.

For more information, call (877) 646-5864 or visit www.lungcancer.org.
