McLachlin shoots 74 at PGA qualifier

Honolulu's Parker McLachlin shot a 2-over 74 yesterday in the opening round of a PGA Tour second stage qualifying tournament at Seaside, Calif.

McLachlin, a Punahou School and UCLA graduate, is in a tie for 64th, eight strokes off the lead at the Black Horse course.

Meanwhile, at the Champions Tour final stage qualifying in Coral Springs, Fla., former Hilo resident Steve Veriato shot 74—149 to make the 150 cut as the 110-player field was trimmed to 76.

Dick McClean, a former pro at Kapalua, shot 76—155.
