I've been getting great mail this week. Notes of best wishes. Wedding gifts. Even business cards with my new name (I'm using my maiden name as my middle at work).
My co-workers even threw a shower for me and the groom-to-be who also works in my department.
No, for the confused out there, we're not marrying each other. I guess there's just romance in the air in the features department. (Co-ed showers are always a sight to behold. I won't steal my colleague's thunder in case he chooses to write about it, but it was kind of funny when we were leaving the restaurant and the gals carted off his gifts so he could ride off baggage-free on his motorcycle.)
The whole gift thing is quite a perk. No wonder I was jealous all those years as a single person. You get all kinds of neat stuff when you get married.
The house I moved into with my fiancé a couple of months ago is looking more and more like a storage shed, though, with all of our boxes. We will be busy cleaning up before out-of-town guests arrive in a few days.
I can't wait to see everybody. Our families will meet for the first time, and some of my closest friends are making the trip.
I don't have wedding jitters yet, but I'm sure having everyone here might make me a little frazzled, especially since I am hosting Thanksgiving two days before the wedding. I told them to expect a casual holiday gathering.
"Just wear beach clothes," I told my brother, who lives in Kentucky.
"I don't have beach clothes," he said.
My mom tells me my brother bought a new suit for the rehearsal dinner (a sunset cruise on a catamaran). I bought my fiancé an aloha shirt for the occasion. I should warn my brother not to wear a suit.
The whole question of wedding attire has befuddled our Mainland guests.
I didn't put anything about it on the invitations. The wedding is at a beach park. My dad asked, early on, if he could wear his swim trunks. (Ha, ha.) I told him to wear whatever would go with what my mom is wearing. The range of attire should be interesting.
My parents celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this month. I'm so glad they're making a trip that will mark both a milestone for them and the beginning of my life with a new member of the family.
For those who can't make it, such as my pregnant sister, my grandmother who won't get on a plane, and two of my groom's siblings and their families, I know they will be here in spirit. We will be thinking of them, too. We have many blessings to count this Thanksgiving, and there will be plenty of love to go around.

Yes we all would love to know how the wedding went and see the beautiful photos! I also think its funny how attire in Hawaii is an aloha shirt and in the mainland, they have no idea what that is and sometimes they think aloha shirts are ugly. Congrats on the wedding!
