Left: Huge waves crashing on east facing shores closed beaches, produced damage on shore and made for spectacular scenes as this one where waves breaking near the shore at Sandy Beach dwarfs this spectator, many of whom were warned to seek higher ground by the police.

An unlucky motorist driving on Kamehameha Highway in Kaaawa catches the brunt of a wave breaking over the highway as high waves continue to pound the east facing shores of the island.

Huge waves crashing on east facing shores closed beaches, produced damage on shore as here at Kaiona Beach Park in Waimanalo where the canoes of Waimanalo Canoe Club were tossed about in the huge waves, breaking hulls and outriggers and carrying away some canoes.
Those same waves produced damage on a Kailua Beach boat ramp where part of the ramp washed away, and the logs strewn about.
Damage was also seen here at Kaiona Beach Park in Waimanalo where the canoes of Waimanalo Canoe Club were tossed about in the huge waves, breaking hulls and outriggers and carrying away some canoes. Adrian Akau, who lives across the highway from the beach, looks at a broken outrigger.

High surf rolling into east-facing Nawiliwili Bay has covered the coastal road and half of Nawiliwili Beach Park with rocks, sand and debris. The concrete barrier at left was washed from the right side of the road. The car at right, which was left along the road overnight, was moved several dozen feet by the waves.

Barry Power and his daughter, Sarah, 4, of Hawaii Kai, watch the power of the ocean as a huge wave splashes up on the rocks near the Blowhole (at the FIshermen's Monument area). Huge waves crashing on east facing shores closed beaches, produced damage on shore and made for spectacular scenes.

Kate Berry watches a wave wash onto her lawn toward her Punaluu home as high waves continue to pound the east facing shores of the island. Wave action eroded as much as 8-10 feet of her lawn, causing some of her palm trees to fall into the ocean.
Kate Berry looks over pieces of lawn at her Punaluu home that were scattered about by the high waves of the early morning, as high waves continue to pound the east facing shores of the island. Wave action eroded as much as 8-10 feet of her lawn, causing some of her palm trees to fall into the ocean, undercutting much of her lawn, exposing the tree roots which threatens the loss of more of her palm trees as the erosion gets closer to her house.

Huge waves crashing on east facing shores closed beaches, produced damage on shore and made for spectacular scenes as this one where a wave crashed on the rocks at the Blowhole kicked up a splash as high as the lookout.

Motorists driving along Kalanianaole Highway past Sandy Beach were treated to spectacular scenes of waves crashing on beaches and rocks as this huge wave spraying high above the Queen's Beach shore.
