'Cabbage' wins; Vitale loses in UFC

Advertiser Staff

Hilo's Wes "Cabbage" Correira beat "Tank Abbott" in the 220-pound and over division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship 45 Revolution event last night at Uncasville, Conn.

Falaniko Vitale of Honolulu lost his 185-pound match to Matt Lindland.

Correira (20-4) beat Abbott (8-10) of Huntington Beach, Calif., after the referee stopped the bout at 2:14 of the first round because of a cut.

Abbott was a member of World Championship Wrestling in the late 1990s.

Vitale (15-3) lost by submission to Lindland (9-2) of Eagle Creek, Ore., in a rematch of a June 6 bout.

Vitale played for the arenafootball2's Hawaiian Islanders during the 2002 season.

Another ex-wrestler, Ken Shamrock, beat Royce Gracie.
