Rainbow Wahine capture WAC tournament

Associated Press

RENO, Nev. — Hawai'i claimed its fourth consecutive Western Athletic Conference women's volleyball tournament title today with a 30-28, 30-26, 30-20 victory over San Jose State.

The win earned the Rainbow Wahine, who are ranked second in the USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, the WAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Kim Willoughby had 21 kills and Hawai'i's only service ace, while Lily Kahumoku added 17 kills. Willoughby and Melissa Villaroman had 15 digs apiece.

Kimberly Noble had 19 kills for the Spartans (10-18).

Kahumoku was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Others joining her on the all-tournament team included Willoughby and Hawai'i teammates Kanoe Kamanao and Lauren Duggins.

The Rainbow Wahine (30-1) will travel to Las Vegas for the UNLV Thanksgiving Tournament, taking on Weber State on Thursday and Kentucky on Friday. They will then return home to find out their opponent in the national tournament.
