The second day of big waves on the east shores brought out the surfers to Sandy Beach where the rare huge waves were the rule today.

They were not successful as the waves kept washing sand back. Many yards of homes in the area experienced flooding.

Tom Coffey cleans up the devastation to his Kaimalino home. The high waves burst through the patio door in the area behind the sandbags and swept through the living room and kitchen of the home, also spreading sand into the downstairs bedroom and garage.

Isaiah Tuifua, 14, and his brother, Pate, 6, lead their dog, "Fear" from its doghouse across their backyard, which was flooded during the high waves. The large surf washed sand under a Kamehameha Highway bridge which cut off drainage of the area, resulting in the flooding.
