17 UH students awarded AlohaCare scholarships

A total of $10,000 in scholarships has been awarded to 17 students attending University of Hawai'i campuses on O'ahu, Maui, Kaua'i and the Big Island, through the "AlohaCare Believes In Me Scholarship" program.

The program was launched this year by AlohaCare, a QUEST health plan with 44,000 health plan members. It provides financial assistance to low-income students enrolled in a Hawai'i college. For Spring 2004, an additional $30,000 in scholarships will be available.

Recipients are Verma Acob, Dawn Baxter, Shirley Bonilla, Steven Connery, Lisa Garcia, Lisa Leonard, Shane Mizusawa, Michelle Sharp, Candace Takatsuka, Kimberly Tucker, Rogelio Cabaya, Rose Marie Justo, Jadelyn Shioshita, Bonnie Duncan, Teresa Hernandez, Claudia Skelton and Lori McKee.
