Two major developments on opposite sides of the Island are the topic of upcoming presentations:
Magnificent new $100 million redevelopment plans for the International Market Place and how that translates into financial support for The Queen's Medical Center and other health initiatives will be discussed at an upcoming breakfast forum. Speaking on "The Waikiki International Market Place: What It Once Was ... It Can Be Again," will be Mark Hastert, president of The Queen Emma Foundation. He is scheduled to speak at a breakfast meeting of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, 7:30 to 9 a.m. Dec. 11 at The Pacific Club. Plans by a private developer to build a 15,000-seat entertainment amphitheater on leased Campbell Estate land in Kapolei i to fill the niche between a 50,000-seat Aloha Stadium and smaller venues such as the Blaisdell Center and Waikiki Shell i will be discussed at a meeting Dec. 3 of the West Oahu Economic Development Association. Terry Gallagher, partner with The Global Venue Group LLC, the Michigan-based company that wants to manage the $20 million project, will also speak on how the proposed project, possibly to be completed by the end of next year, would stimulate growth in the West O'ahu region, and take questions from the audience. The MINORITY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER OF HONOLULU will offer free weekly orientation sessions to minority business owners and prospective entrepreneurs. The sessions, scheduled 9 to 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday in the center's offices in Suite 2506 of the Executive Center, 1088 Bishop St., will offer advice on business startup, marketing plans, loans, employee handbooks and access to capital. A free COMPUTER BOOT CAMP is offered 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays to all small-business owners interested in using computer technology to improve and expand business operations and management. The program is sponsored by the Small Business Resource Center, in partnership with the Small Business Administration, the city Office of Economic Development, Hawai'i Small Business Development Center Network, Hawai'i Women's Business Center, and SCORE. The program is open to all clients of the center who have attended a center orientation, offered 9 a.m. Tuesdays or 2 p.m. Thursdays at 1041 Nu'uanu Ave., Suite A.
