The fall 2003 issue, out since October, showcases the works of LCC students. Instructor Kay Porter's magazine editing and production students select, edit and judge the entries, and produce the publication each semester.
"This is incredible because it gives students that are gifted with writing, painting or screenwriting a trigger to have a career in life," said contributor Francis Luxembourg, 52, of Kaimuki. He won first place for the painting shown above, "Prize-winning Beauty."
Find Harvest at the LCC library and some public libraries. Some free copies are also available; call 455-0432.

Deborah Wood, author of "The Dog Lover's Guide to Dating: Using Cold Noses to Find Warm Hearts" (Howell Book House, $14.99, 168 pages) says that you're three times more likely to have people stop and talk with you when you're with a dog. People also perceive you as nicer, smarter and more approachable.
Some breeds are better at attracting mates than others. A happy-faced, tail-wagging golden retriever tops Wood's list. "These dogs make people feel good and brave enough to say hello to the person at the (other) end of the leash," she says.
At the bottom of the list: pit bulls.
