Tube Notes

Tonight's Must-See

"An American Idol Christmas," 7 p.m., Fox. Fox made its own stars with "American Idol." Tonight, it has the first two winners — Kelly Clarkson and Ruben Studdard — plus Clay Aiken, Tamyra Gray and more.

"Independent Lens: Livermore," 10 p.m., PBS. Livermore, Calif., seems like a perfect symbol for suburban sprawl. In a half-century, its population went from 12,000 people to 72,000; it has recorded its past neatly, via home movies and a local photographer's artful book, "Suburbia." Its people seem quiet, calm and pleasant. But that doesn't stop things from getting goofy. Catch the parts about the mistreated totem pole and the misplaced time capsule. Keep watching to the end, through the updates in the credits. "Livermore" manages to be both warm and funny.

Of Note

"Never Been Kissed" (1999), 7 p.m., WB. During this holiday week, The WB pauses to show movies. This one has Drew Barrymore as a 25-year-old journalist who pretends to be a high school student to get a news story. The idea is a bit silly, but Barrymore is wonderful. In support are such then-stars-to-be as Jessica Alba and Leelee Sobieski.

"Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," 7 p.m., NBC. This show, a hit on the Bravo cable channel, begins a two-night NBC stay. Tonight's target is a postal worker and part-time taxidermist, with bushy beard and shoulder-length hair.

"Eight Simple Rules," 7 p.m., ABC. Here's the first Thanksgiving since the dad's death.

"Less Than Perfect," 8:30 p.m., ABC. Owen (Andy Dick) has his lesbian moms — played by Valerie Harper and Joanna Kerns — over for Thanksgiving. Naturally, they assume he's gay.
