KOMANDO'S Q&A
AOL can hold loads of e-mail

By Kim Komando

Q. How much e-mail does my America Online mailbox store? How long do I have to recover e-mail after I delete it?

A. Your America Online mailbox is divided into three areas: New Mail, Old Mail and Sent Mail. AOL will store up to 1,000 pieces of New Mail, 550 pieces of Old Mail and 550 pieces of Sent Mail. This is per screen name. E-mail can be recovered for 24 hours after you delete it. To recover deleted mail, select Mail from the AOL toolbar and click Recently Deleted Mail. Highlight the e-mail you want to recover and click Keep as New. That e-mail will then be moved to New Mail.

Q. I lost my status bar in Windows Explorer. How can I get it back?

A. In Windows Explorer, click View and Status Bar. The status bar will display free drive space when you click a folder. You can get more information elsewhere. Click Start and My Computer. Right-click your hard drive (probably C:) and click Properties. Hard drive information is on the General tab.

Q. I use Windows XP and have 128 megabytes of memory. I want to add another 128MB. How can I be sure that I order the right kind?

A. Check your computer's manual for memory specifications. The type and speed of the memory depends on your motherboard.

Online memory sellers such as Crucial Technology (www.crucial.com), Kingston Technology (www.kingston.com) and PNY Technologies (www.pny.com) have configuration tools. Simply pick the make and model of your computer, and the results window will show compatible memory.
