Man injured in head-on Wahiawa crash

Advertiser Staff

A 30-year-old Wahiawa man was critically injured Wednesday night in a head-on traffic collision on California Avenue, 73 feet east of Kalala Street.

The injured man was driving a 2004 Mazda RX-8 on the wrong side of the road on California Avenue when the car collided with a 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck at 11:28 p.m., police said. The Mazda’s driver suffered head, leg and internal injuries and was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition.

The pickup truck’s driver, a 34-year-old Wahiawa man, was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released, police said.

There were no reports of other injuries.

Speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors, and the injured man was not wearing a seat belt, according to traffic investigators.
