The Wyland fling

What a week for marine-life artist Wyland. On Monday he met 5-month-old baby sea lion Wyland at Sea Life Park. On Sunday, Wyland will showcase Makana and other Island artists in a 25-year anniversary celebration from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Wyland Galleries at the Kalakaua Center (next to Planet Hollywood). For his silver anniversary, Wyland — a North Shore resident best known for his 90 whaling walls around the world — will introduce new abstract art, including limited editions, and will sign his latest book, "Wyland, Artist of the Sea" (shown right), a retrospective of his work painting sea life.

Makana will share his ki ho'alu artistry; Maunalua and Resophonics will also be featured.

Admission is free; wine-tasting will be available. Information: 924-1322.

Wyland the sea lion won't attend. But you can see that Wyland and other pups from 9:30 to 5 p.m. daily at the park.

Maui singles alert

SOTO
"A Dating Story," TLC's singles program, will film shows on Maui between Dec. 12 and Dec. 17.

Producer Banyan Productions is seeking single men and women on Maui, ages 25 to 35, "who'd be interested in a terrific blind date," said county film commissioner Benita Brazier.

The TLC show, hosted by Sabrina Soto, airs at 11 and 11:30 a.m. weekdays and is viewed by more than 55 million people. Each episode puts together two people on a blind date, and follows the couple as they prepare for their date, meet and go out.

Prospective candidates should contact Danielle Stewart of Banyan Productions at (215) 928-1414, ext. 7130, or dstewart@banyanproductions.com.

Pearl High on parade

The Pearl City High School marching band and Halau Hula Olana of Pearl City will get a chance to shine at the 72nd annual Hollywood Christmas Parade on Sunday in Los Angeles.

"The band has been given the honor of leading the parade and will play the signature 'Hooray for Hollywood' music along the route," said Kent Sato, one of the school's three band directors.

The parade will only be broadcast in California. (For information, see www.hollywoodspectacular.com.) But the 220-member band — and 32 dancers ages 7 to 13 from Howard and Olana Ai's halau — will perform "The Hawaiian War Chant" and a Christmas medley.
