Eldredges will conduct baseball clinics at Mililani

Eldredge Athletics Winter Baseball Clinics will conduct two half-day clinics Dec. 20 at Mililani High's baseball complex.

A hitting clinic will be held 9 a.m. to noon with registration at 8:30. A defense clinic will follow from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with registration at 12:30.

Cost is $40 per clinic with each participant getting a T-shirt. Cost for both clinics is $75, which includes the T-shirt and lunch.

Applications are available at City Bank branches or at Rainbow Sports. Registration deadline is Dec. 13 and is open to the first 50 applicants for each clinic.

The clinic will be conducted by the Eldredge family. Duane Eldredge is head coach at Maryknoll and manager of Hawaii Baseball, David "Boy" Eldredge is a former Hawai'i Pacific head coach and former assistant at Loyola Marymount and Brigham Young, Pal Eldredge is a former Punahou coach and serves a TV analyst for University of Hawai'i baseball, and Dave Eldredge also is a former Punahou coach and Hawai'i Babe Ruth commissioner.

• Werner honored: McKinley High School quarterback Abel Werner has been named Gatorade State Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.

The senior passed for 1,484 yards and 16 touchdowns and also rushed for 238 yards and six touchdowns.

Werner maintains a 3.2 grade point average and is one of 51 finalists in the running for the Gatorade National High School Boys' Football Player of the Year Award.
