UH hosts Idaho in NCAA Women's Volleyball first round

The University of Hawai'i will host Idaho in a first-round NCAA Women's Volleyball Championships first-round match on Thursday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The match with the Vandals (19-10) will be at about 7 p.m., following another first-round match between Brigham Young (22-8) and New Mexico State (30-4). The winners will meet at 7 p.m. Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Hawai'i (32-1) received the No. 2 seed overall and is the top seed in their region. Other seeds in UH's region are No. 7 Georgia Tech, No. 10 California and No. 15 Illinois.

No. 1-ranked and undefeated Southern California is the No. 1 seed in the tournament, followed by UH, Florida, Pepperdine, Stanford, Kansas State, Georgia Tech and UCLA.

Hawai'i was the only Western Athletic Conference team selected to the 64-team tournament. UH was pre-selected to host a volleyball regional on Dec. 12-13. The semfinals and final is Dec. 18 and 20 in Dallas.

UH women's volleyball season ticket holders who paid for their tournament tickets can pick them up starting at noon tomorrow at the Stan Sheriff Center. Ticket packages for the first and second rounds go on sale Tuesday at 8 a.m. at Stan Sheriff Center and www.etickethawaii.com and at 9 a.m. by calling 944-2697 or at the Aloha Stadium box office.
