WASHINGTON — Here are some actions in Congress last week.

Key House votes

1. Medicare

The House on Saturday passed, 220-215, a bill that would overhaul the Medicare program for seniors and the disabled and establish a prescription drug benefit. A yea vote was to pass the bill.

Hawai'i votes: Neil Abercrombie (D) NAY; Ed Case (D) NAY



Key Senate votes

1. Medicare — procedural motion

The Senate adopted, 61-39, a motion that clears the way for final passage of a Medicare prescription drug benefit bill. A yea vote was to move ahead on Medicare.

Hawai'i votes: Daniel Akaka (D) NAY; Dan Inouye (D) NAY



2. Medicare — final passage

The Senate on Tuesday passed, 54-44, a bill that would overhaul the Medicare program for seniors and the disabled and establish a prescription drug benefit. A yea vote was to pass the bill.

Hawai'i votes: Daniel Akaka (D) NAY; Dan Inouye (D) NAY

What's ahead: The House and Senate will return the week of Dec. 8 to consider a massive spending bill to pay for most government operations in fiscal 2004, which began Oct. 1. Lawmakers then hope to adjourn until January.
