BYUH pounds Humboldt State in basketball

Jake Chrisman and Shawn Opunui combined for 57 points to lead Brigham Young-Hawai'i to a 108-97 college men's basketball victory over Humboldt State (Calif.) at the Cannon Activities Center last night.

Chrisman scored 29 and Opunui 28. Chrisman also had a game-high 10 rebounds.

BYU-Hawai'i is 4-2, Humboldt State 3-1.

Fred Hooks led Humboldt State with 16 points.

UH-Hilo wins: Ryan Abrahams' 3-point shot bounced around the rim before falling in with 11 seconds to go to give the University of Hawai'i-Hilo a 58-56 victory over Ryder University (N.J.) last night at Afook-Chinen civic auditorium in Hilo.

The Vulcans improved to 4-1. Ryder is 2-1.

Ryder got the ball back after Abrahams' go-ahead basket, but the Vulcans forced a turnover to seal the victory.

The Vulcans trailed 32-27 at halftime.

Abrahams finished with a game-high 21 points. Justin Griffin added 16 points for Hilo.

Jerry Johnson had 16 points for Ryder.

HPU loses: Adam Bliven drained a 3-pointer as time expired as Adams State (Colo.) defeated Hawai'i Pacific, 74-70, at Mid-Pacific gym.

HPU is 0-5, Adams State 3-2.

Bliven scored 9 points, including two 3-pointers.

David Mitchell and Brandon Norris each scored 15 points to lead Adams State. Norris had 10 rebounds.

Aaron Abrams scored a game-high 19 points for HPU.

MEETING

Quarterback Club: University of Hawai'i football assistant coaches Rich Miano and Tyson Helton and former UH quarterback Elroy Chong are the scheduled speakers for tomorrow's Honolulu Quarterback Club.
