Hotter? It just seems that way, experts say

The National Weather Service says it’s not hot.
"It hasn’t been that warm," said lead forecaster Jeff Powell. "It seems warm because the wind isn’t moving. The highs have only been in the upper 80s."
And that’s normal for late summer.
So are the kona winds, the southerlies which have fouled skies with volcanic haze for several days.
OK, you’re probably thinking: He works in an air-conditioned office, how would he know hot from not? Well, Powell knows trade winds, the northeasterlies which have been in short supply in recent days.
"If the trade winds aren’t blowing, it seems warmer," he said.
But they’ll be back this weekend. By Sunday, trades will be 15 to 25 mph and may strengthen further.
"People will feel a lot better as the trades come back," Powell said.
