Robber runs with sports club cash

A man yesterday robbed Players Sports & Entertainment Club on University Avenue of an undisclosed amount of cash. The robbery was reported at 3:45 p.m.

The man showed the butt of a gun tucked in his pants and demanded money from an employee, police said. He fled and was still at large today.


Charges filed in sexual assault

Authorities yesterday charged 31-year-old Lee Leonard Sundell with six counts of first-degree sexual assault and seven counts of third-degree sexual assault on a 15-year-old girl.

The incidents were said to have occurred in late April. Sundell was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.


Fire destroys Moloka'i home

A home at Kamehameha V Highway in Puko'o, Moloka'i, was destroyed by fire last night. Maui Assistant Fire Chief Alan Cordeiro said the 6:05 p.m. fire appears to be accidental. Damage was estimated at $200,000 to the building and $50,000 to its contents.

The fire was reported under control at 6:55 p.m.

The Hawai'i Chapter of the American Red Cross was helping a man, woman and 2-year-old child left homeless by the fire.


Hospital escapee sought by police

Police were looking for a 36-year-old man who walked away from the Hawai'i State Hospital on Monday. Nathan Kaleoleo Keaulii is considered an escapee. Keaulii has been convicted of drug, traffic and family-abuse offenses.

In November 1998, he was acquitted of petty misdemeanor harassment on grounds of insanity, according to the Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center.
