Hawaiian wins another delay

Hawaiian Airlines has won another extension — until Oct. 31 — to renegotiate its aircraft leases with Boeing Capital Corp.

A U.S. bankruptcy judge granted the extension as part of Hawaiian's efforts to reorganize under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Hawaiian's negotiations with Boeing — which provides two-thirds of Hawaiian's airline fleet — have been going on since April. Hawaiian filed for bankruptcy in March.


Abalone grower exporter of year

Big Island Abalone Corp. will be named the 2003 Governor's Exporter of the Year at a ceremony at Washington Place this afternoon.

It's one of seven companies and individuals that will be honored for their export achievements. Big Island Abalone operates in the Hawai'i Ocean Sciences and Technology Park at Keahole Point.
