HVCB wins awards in Seoul
The Hawai'i Visitors and Convention Bureau earned two top honors for the excellence of its presentations at South Korea's largest annual travel and consumer trade show, this summer in Seoul.
Judges bestowed the awards on Hawai'i for best booth design and best folklore performance. It was the third consecutive year HVCB has earned both awards.
"We're honored to receive these awards as it reflects the meticulous planning and preparation by our division employees and worldwide representative in Korea," said Maydene Simmons, HVCB's vice president of Developing International Markets. She said a goal was to make Hawai'i "a focal point for attendees while generating news coverage in local media."
Group elects board members
The Hawai'i chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers has elected its new board members. They are: president, Michael Chong, AES Design Group; president-elect, Victor Russell, DSA Engineering; vice president, Ross Tanaka, Mechanical Enterprises; secretary, Marites Shoji, Norman Wright Mechanical Equipment; treasurer, Sam Gillie, Hawaiian Electric Company.
Marketers pick directors
The Hawai'i chapter of the American Marketing Association has announced its new board of directors for 2003-2004. They are: president, Timothy Deegan, Deegan & Associates; president-elect Kevin Sakamoto, Honolulu City & County Employees Federal Credit Union; treasurer, John Flanigan, First Hawaiian Bank; secretary, Marche Kawai, KHON Television.
Association selects officers
The Hawaii Food Industry Association elected officers at its annual convention at the J.W. Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa. They are: chairman, Gary Yoshioka, general manager, Pepsi Bottling Group; vice chairman, George Szigeti, president, Better Brands; secretary/treasurer, Joe Detro, vice president of sales and marketing, Foodland Supermarket, Ltd.; immediate past chair, Ray Sabanal, sales operations manager, The Pint Size Corporation; president, Richard Botti; executive director, Ed Thompson.
Student joins service project
Lizzy Lynch, a recent graduate of Moanalua High School and a freshman at American University, participated in a community service project in which freshman students contributed more than 10,000 hours of services at 36 sites around the Washington, D.C., area.
Lynch volunteered with National Park Service, participating in cleaning jobs on the National Mall. More than 550 American university students participated in the Freshman Service Experience.
