How Hawai'i hotels are faring

Statewide hotel occupancy increased to 70.7 percent for the week ended Sept. 27 4.6 percent above the same week last year, according to Hospitality Advisors LLC. Statewide average room rates slipped to $131.89. Kaua'i recorded a gain to 83.3 percent occupancy with room rates averaging $152.28. Maui occupancy declined to 71 percent, while room rates dropped to $158.80. O'ahu hotels continued to show improvement with a gain in occupancy to 69.2 percent. Big Island occupancy rose by an impressive 26.7 percent to 67 percent.
