Lawsuit alleges faulty shingles

Portland, Ore.-based building materials manufacturer Louisiana-Pacific Corp. is being sued by property owners with roof shingles the company made and sold almost exclusively in four states, including Hawai'i.

Attorneys in the case are notifying owners of homes and commercial buildings with Nature Guard shingles, a cement/fiber product that looks like cedar shakes and was sold from 1995 to 1998. Plaintiffs allege that the shingles fail prematurely.

Louisiana-Pacific said its Nature Guard shingles have performed as warranted.
