Honolulu Board of Water Supply officials said yesterday that consumption averaged 162.22 million gallons per day, up slightly from the week before.

Still, last week's daily use was down by more than 8 million gallons from the same period a year ago, an indication that O'ahu users are trying to cut down water use in the face of a very dry season.

Decreases in water use were reported last week in the Windward and Waialua-Kahuku areas, keeping the overall figures from rising dramatically, despite higher temperatures and the absence of significant rainfall, officials said.

Water use in the Windward district was down 0.72 million gallons per day for the week, while in the Waialua-Kahuku district it was down 0.70 million gallons per day.

Meanwhile, use was up 1.38 million gallons per day in the Honolulu district, up 0.12 million gallons per day in the Wahiawa area, up 0.06 million gallons per day in the 'Ewa-Wai'anae area and up 0.69 million gallons per day in the Pearl Harbor area.

The Board of Water Supply issued its request for voluntary water conservation this past summer. Residents of O'ahu are asked to restrict their lawn and garden watering to between 12:01 a.m. and 10 a.m., and again between 6 p.m. and midnight, on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
