5,000 to take part in Niketown run

Some 5,000 runners will participate in the fourth Niketown 5, a 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) run through Waikiki Sunday.

The race begins at 7 a.m. and some roads will be closed. As in past years, all entry fees will be donated to O'ahu public and private schools to help athletic programs.

A one-mile kids run around Fort DeRussy Park also will be held for children 12 and under.

• Tomorrow — Ohana Batting Cages sponsors free Speed Training Clinic. At Ohana Batting Cages, 98-055 Kamehameha Highway, 'Aiea. Clinic is from 1-2:30 p.m. Information: 486-4487.

• Oct. 11 — Hawai'i International Youth Goodwill Games Coaching Clinic. • Oct. 12 — Manoa Girls Athletic Club Basketball Registration. At Manoa Valley District Park 9 to 11 a.m. Open to girls 8U (Pee Wee division), 10U (Minors) 12U (Juniors) & 17U (Majors).

Swimming
