Interfaith group meeting Oct. 11

The Interfaith Alliance Hawai'i is hosting an inaugural dinner and annual meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin, 1727 Pali Highway.

The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy, an author and the national president of the group. Gaddy will also present a speech on "Standing Together in Love" at a vigil 6 p.m. Oct. 12 at Kaka'ako Waterfront Park.

The vegetarian dinner will be catered by Hare Krishnas; $10. Reserve by Monday: 988-7420 or e-mail TIAH@hawaii.rr.com. Include name, number in the party and contact number. Pay at the door.

Buddhism to be topic of lectures

The annual Futaba memorial lectures will focus on contemporary American Buddhism's prospects and impact, Nov. 14 and 15 at the Honpa Hongwanji Betsuin.

John R. McRae, a professor of Buddhism at Indiana University and Numata chair visiting professor at the University of Hawai'i, will open the lecture series at 7 p.m. Nov. 14.

On Nov. 15, George Tanabe, a UH professor of religion, will speak at 9 a.m. and Roy Perrett, a UH professor of philosophy lectures at 10:30 a.m.

Poranee Natadecha-Sponsel, a professor of religion and women's studies at Chaminade University, and Leslie Sponsel, a UH professor of anthropology, will speak at 1 p.m.

'Book of Mormon Movie' to play here

The "Book of Mormon Movie" will open in Hawai'i on Oct. 17, with publicists saying the movie will play at theaters in Pearl City and La'ie.

Filmgoers will be able to see familiar scenery, since parts of the movie were filmed on Kaua'i. Other locations include the desert of Green River and Antelope Island, both in Utah.
