Brakling's 33 kills spur HPU

Flavia Brakling had a career-high 33 kills and 14 digs to lead No. 11 Hawai'i Pacific to a comeback victory over Western New Mexico last night in a Pacific West Conference women's volleyball match at St. Andrew's Priory gym.

Vera Oliveira added 62 assists and 11 digs for HPU, which won 28-30, 28-30, 30-15, 30-26, 15-5.

The Sea Warriors improved to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the PacWest. Western New Mexico fell to 8-10 and 0-3.

Junior Kim Tano, a Saint Francis School graduate from Kane'ohe, had 16 kills and 15 digs for Western New Mexico. Freshman Liz Narkon, a Saint Francis graduate from Honolulu, added 15 kills and eight digs.

Chaminade sweeps: Valasi Sepulona and Kahala Kabalis each had 12 kills as Chaminade defeated Montana State-Billings, 30-27, 30-21, 30-26, last night in a Pacific West Conference women's volleyball match at McCabe gym.

Sepulona added 12 digs and Kalae Araujo 11 for Chaminade (7-4 , 2-0 PacWest).

Olivia Munro had 12 kills for Montana State-Billings (3-12, 0-4).



MEETINGS

Na Koa: University of Hawai'i head football coach June Jones and offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh will provide game film and commentary from yesterday's 27-16 loss to Tulsa at tomorrow's meeting of the Na Koa Football Club.

They will also preview Saturday's home game against Fresno State.

Lunch — $13 for club members, $15 for guests — starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

QB Club: Bobby Ahu, a former University of Hawai'i running back and standout punt returner, will be the featured guest at today's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

Also scheduled to appear are UH assistant football coaches Dan Morrison and Ron Lee.

Lunch — $7.50 for club members, $8 for guests — starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda Hotel ballroom.
