Kobe won’t play

Advertiser Staff

Kobe Bryant announced today that he will not play in the Los Angeles Lakers’ exhibition games tomorrow and Wednesday.

The rest of the Lakers are scheduled to play the Golden State Warriors at 8 p.m. tomorrow and 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Bryant is facing felony sexual assault charges in Colorado, but he will sit out the exhibition games because he has not yet fully recovered from off-season surgeries to his right shoulder and right knee. A preliminary hearing for Bryant’s sexual assault case is scheduled for Thursday at Eagle, Colo.

The Lakers started training camp in Honolulu last Tuesday. Bryant joined the team on Saturday, and has practiced only in a few drills for the past three days.

Bryant, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard, finished second in the NBA with 30.0 points per game, and was a first team All-NBA selection.
