Feeling lucky?
Advertiser Staff
You could make your fortune by studying hard, getting a degree or two then working diligently for, oh, forever. Or you can just hone those poker skills, pay an outrageous buy-in fee and try your luck against the world's greatest gamblers for a share of the World Poker Tour's $10 million pot.
The tour, a surprising ratings smash for the Travel Channel last season, has finalized its tournament schedule for next year. Stops include the Aviation Club de France in Paris, the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, and a floating casino on a cruise to Mexico. All tournaments are open to amateurs and professionals. Check out www.worldpokertour.com for details.
Awed by raw food?
A balanced diet of only raw plant foods can reduce cholesterol and aid weight loss, but there are some caveats. Dr. William Harris, a retired emergency physician and former director of the Kaiser Permanente vegetarian lifestyle clinic in Honolulu, will give a free lecture for the Vegetarian Society of Hawai'i at 7 p.m. Saturday at McCoy Pavilion in Ala Moana Park. And he'll discuss being a vegetarian since 1950 and vegan since 1963.
Harris also is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 261 S. Pu'unene Ave., Kahului, Maui.

Squash 'n' wear
Traveling for business and fussing about how to pack light but look professional? It's in the bag.
Dress in a Bag is a line of figure-flattering simple tank dresses (up to 2X) in wrinkle-resistant, machine-washable fabrics that drape beautifully and can crumple into a small drawstring purse. And they're affordable: priced at $50 to $74 depending on style and fabric.
The line was created by Maria Erickson, a mother and president of an apparel company who asked her sample maker to make a basic tank dress for her of some Italian rayon. She got so many compliments she decided to start making them. Check out www.dressinabag.com.
