Businessman wins award
Dan Dorszynski, managing partner of Wet Sand Enterprises, a local Web site programming and design company, has received the 2003 Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the National Business and Disability Council.
Dorszynski has muscular dystrophy and devotes time as a volunteer and speaker for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The Wisconsin native launched Wet Sand with Stewart Chong, a Kamehameha Schools graduate. Wet Sand has grown to become a leader in its industry as a Web design firm.
Sierra Club honors activists
The Sierra Club has bestowed national awards on three Hawai'i men. Isaac Hall of Maui received the William O. Douglas Award for contributions in the field of environmental law. Over the past 25 years Hall has litigated many cases on behalf of the environment in Hawai'i.
Robert Keane of Mililani received the One Club Award, which recognizes people who use outings as a way to instill an interest in conservation and protecting public lands.
David Raney of Honolulu received a Special Service Award for strong and consistent commitment to conservation over an extended period.
Firm's work recognized
Group 70 International received an Award of Merit for its work on the Kalihi Valley Homes renovation project from the American Institute of Architects Northwest and Pacific Region Design Awards Program.
The Kalihi project included a comprehensive site and building assessment for the 400-unit federally subsidized public housing project. Group 70's vision was to create an attractive, cohesive community of which residents could be proud. It is said to be the first public housing project here to incorporate residents' ideas in the design process.
Group picks four board members
Four community leaders were recently selected as new members of The Salvation Army Honolulu Advi-sory Board. They are: Dr. Edwin Cadman, dean of the University of Hawai'i John A. Burns School of Medicine; Rick Egged, president of the Waikiki Improvement Association; Abel Malczon, senior vice president of operations for American Savings Bank; and Graham Pearce, vice president and senior investment management specialist and financial consultant with Smith Barney.
Hotel catering manager named
Radisson Hotels & Resorts and Stanford Hotels has named Richard Foo catering sales manager of the Radisson Waikiki Prince Kuhio. He is responsible for developing the catering and banqueting operations for the emerging international Chinese travel market to Hawai'i and for developing strategic partnerships with wholesalers in Southeast Asia, China and local inbound agencies.
Most recently Foo was the managing director for the Suukee Gourmet Catering Private Limited Resort and Country Club in Singapore and general manager at the Shanghai Grassland Golf Club & Resorts, Ltd. in China.
