Lingle adviser named to education role

Associated Press

Randy Roth, Gov. Linda Lingle’s senior adviser of policy, is taking a new post in the administration.

Lingle announced last night that Roth will serve as senior adviser of education, focusing on reforming Hawai'i’s public education.

Roth assisted Lingle in the formation of the Citizens to Achieve Reform in Education committee, which was announced Oct. 1. Lingle said Roth is to continue working with the committee as it takes its reform ideas out into the community.

"My administration has been fortunate to have Randy to help us get off to a strong and effective start, and I am especially pleased that he has agreed to head up our education reform efforts for the coming year," Lingle said.

Roth, who is on loan from the University of Hawai'i, is to continue in his new post until next fall when he is scheduled to resume teaching at the university’s William S. Richardson School of Law.

Lingle also announced that as of Nov. 1, Linda Smith will replace Roth as senior adviser of policy.

Smith is a business-woman who served as Honolulu’s finance director during the 1980s.
