Kaloko man charged in South Kona robbery

KEALAKEHE, Hawai'i — A 37-year-old suspect was charged yesterday with burglary, robbery and other crimes in connection with a Sept. 10 robbery in which two men impersonating police officers forced their way into a Honaunau home in South Kona.

Bobby L. Macomber Jr. of Kaloko was arrested Monday after allegedly threatening another man with a gun during an argument over the disposal of some cat food, police said.

Coincidentally, Big Island detectives were in the process of obtaining a search warrant for Macomber's home when he was arrested. Police said the search turned up a loaded .357 revolver, a shotgun, ammunition, crystal methamphetamine residue and a Hawai'i County badge.

In addition to burglary and robbery, Macomber was charged with kidnapping, theft, four firearm counts, impersonating a police officer, violation of a court order, terroristic threatening and four drug counts. He was being held at the Kona police station in lieu of $241,000 bail.

During the Sept. 10 robbery, two armed men identifying themselves as police officers forced their way into the home, overpowered the victim and forced him to the ground, tying him up with duct tape. The intruders left with cash and other valuables.

Police are still looking for a second suspect in the case, which is not believed to be related to a home-invasion robbery Sept. 18 in Captain Cook.
