Police Beat

Autopsy results awaited in death

Police are awaiting findings from an autopsy performed today to determine if foul play is involved in the death of a 7-week-old boy.

The boy’s father, a 34-year-old Salt Lake resident, told police the infant slipped out of his arms and fell to the floor. The child was taken to an undisclosed hospital at about 2:15 a.m. yesterday.

No drugs, weapons found in prison raid

State public safety officials found no drugs or weapons in a shakedown yesterday of a Halawa medium-security prison module.

Only one of four medium-security modules was involved in the shakedown, said Halawa prison warden Clayton Frank. The module searched yesterday is designed to house 248 inmates but the current population is 290, Frank said.

Overcrowding is a major reason Frank plans to schedule routine module searches for contraband, drugs and weapons as a followup to the two-day shakedown of Halawa’s medium-security modules last May.

"We have an obligation to staff and inmate safety," said Frank.

"We’re targeting for at least one a quarter," Frank said of shakedowns.
