Outrigger sells Ohana Surf Hotel

Advertiser Staff

Outrigger Enterprises Inc. sold the 251-room OHANA Surf Hotel to Hawaiian Island Development Co. Inc. The terms of the sale were not disclosed.

The 251-room hotel was quietly closed on Oct. 1. Outrigger CEO David Carey said the company is focusing on its Waikiki Beach Walk project and the OHANA Surf was not part of its master plan. All 38 employees at the hotel will be relocated to other Outrigger and OHANA hotels.

Hawaiian Island Development plans to rename the building on Kuhio Avenue "The Ohia" and rent the rooms on long-term leases. Hawaiian Island Homes Ltd., a Peter Savio-owned firm, will handle the rentals.
